Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 8/29 – 9/4
With September just days away, we’re super excited to close the month out with a long holiday weekend full of fun events and activities.

Wednesday, August 29
– Check out a screening of “Whitney” at Film Bar – a look into award-winning, record-setting singer Whitney Houston’s life. The film showcase exclusive audio and video from her time as a performer. Tickets are $5 for the 12:30 pm showing and $9.95 for the 5:05 pm showing.
– Test your taste buds at a Blind Wine Tasting at Valley Bar. The theme is “Old World vs. New World,” as you will compare wines from different places – a total of 6 wines will be sampled. Tickets are $15, and you can attend the event at 6 or 7:30 pm.
Thursday, August 30
– Crescent Ballroom is hosting the 4th Annual Lip Sync Battle benefiting the Co+Hoots Foundation at 6 pm. The night will feature tons of goofy performances from those in the community and will surely be fun to watch. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the show.
– Catch American rock band Awolnation at the Van Buren for an all-ages show starting at 8 pm. Tickets are $27.00.
Friday, August 31
– Head over to Changing Hands in Phoenix for their $2 Red Star Book Sale. Thousands of titles, both hardcover and paperback, will be on sale for just $2. You can enjoy the coffee bar and other cold drinks at the First Draft Book Bar as well. The sale starts Friday at 9 am and goes till Monday at 10 pm.
– Arizona Drag Stars are heading to Valley Bar to showcase their newest show, Arizona Drag Monsters. There will be live singing, impressions, costumes, and much more at. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 the day of the show. Starts at 7 pm.
Saturday, September 1
– Help the Growhouse in downtown Phoenix to prepare their garden beds for Fall planting. It’s a great chance to help out the community and meet new people as well. The event runs from 8-10am.
– Hang out at Urban Wellness for a “Glow and Flow” yoga class starting at 7:30 pm. There will be body paint and glow sticks – open to all levels. $15 donations appreciated.
– Odysea Aquarium is offering a unique experience to “Slumber Under the Sea” – a chance to go on a behind the scenes tour, participate in tons of hands-on activities, and enjoy popcorn and a movie. In the morning, have breakfast and get a chance to see what animal specialists do. Tickets are $99 for the event starting at 6 pm.
Sunday, September 2
– Back by popular demand, the Herberger Theater is bringing the production of the classic Charlotte’s Web tale to their stage. The show starts at 4 pm, and tickets are between $12 and $30.
– The Saguaro Scottsdale is helping you celebrate Labor Day weekend with a “Sun Dream” pool party, featuring multiple DJs and party vibes. RSVP is free before the event starts at 1 pm – after, tickets are $20 (with a free drink included). The party goes until 5 pm.
Monday, September 3
– Celebrate the long weekend over at Lustre Rooftop Bar for a Labor Day celebration starting at 11 am. There will be a special menu and rooftop barbeque, as well as a DJ spinning from 1-5pm. No cover.
– Maya Day and Nightclub are also having a Labor Day celebration, featuring rapper Nelly and electronic music group Cash Cash. Tickets are $20 for the party starting at 12 pm. This brings the Maya pool season to a close!
Tuesday, September 4
– You can still grab tickets to the Leon Bridges show at Comerica Theatre that starts at 7:30 pm. Standard admission starts at $46.50. It’s worth trying to see the amazing talent that the gospel and soul singer will bring to the stage.
