Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 1/16 – 1/22

 

 

Another week of 2019 is upon us, which brings another week of possibility for awesome events around the Valley. There’s a ton to do this week, from outdoor activities allowing you to enjoy the amazing weather to fun art events and more. Check out some of our picks for the week!

Wednesday, January 16

Photo Cred: Fabulous Arizona

-The Found:RE Phoenix hotel is hosting “Yappy Hour,” where you’re encouraged to bring your furry friend to hang out on the Match Restaurant Patio. The event starts at 6pm and includes complimentary treats for your dog and specials on food and drinks for you.

-ChopShop in Tempe is hosting an open mic night from 6-9:30pm where you can enjoy live music and $1 off beer, wine, or mimosas. You can sign up on their site to participate in the open mic or just go and enjoy the performances.

Thursday, January 17

-The Arizona Opera hosts a Brown Bag Lunch Recital from 12:15-12:45 where you can bring your lunch and enjoy a free 30-minute concert by studio artists performing a variety of opera classics. It’s a great way to spend your lunch break!

-It’s time for a Reggae party at Paz Cantina with performances by The Hourglass Cats and The Irie. It’s bound to be a great night with the free live music, drink specials, and yummy Mexican food. Starts at 8pm.

Friday, January 18

-Spend the night at the Arizona Science Center for “Science with a Twist” – an evening for those 21+ to enjoy the center and the monthly theme. January’s theme is speakeasy style, so you’re encouraged to wear your favorite flapper gear or suits while enjoying themed music and specialty cocktails. Tickets are $12 and it starts at 6pm.

-It’s a night of storytelling with a Story Slam over at the Newton. Tickets are $6 to see 10 storytellers tell 6-minute stories surrounding the month’s theme of music.

Saturday, January 19

-Browse through a variety of clothes, home décor, art, and other awesome treasures at a flea market over in the Tiny Flea parking lot, starting at 8am. This is the 2nd flea market as the first was such a success – and the prices are guaranteed to be affordable!

-If you like ghost stories, you’ll love the Downtown Phoenix Walking Ghost Tour from 6-7:30pm. The walking tour gives you some insight into the history of the center of Phoenix and information about mysterious paranormal activities. Tickets are $15.

Sunday, January 20

Photo Cred: Downtown Tempe

-Enjoy the 6th Street Market in Downtown Tempe from 10am-3pm, where there will be 30-50 artisans selling locally made goods and produce. There are also local musicians performing throughout the day.

-The Phoenix Art Museum is hosting “PhxArt Amplified,” which is an all-day experience at the museum featuring live performances by local musicians throughout the various spots in the museum. It’s a great day combining visual art with music. Tickets are $23 or $13 for those 21 and younger. Starts at 12pm.

Monday, January 21

Celebrate MLK day with a March that starts at 9am (assembles at 8:30) on 14th street and Jefferson. The March finishes at Margaret T. Hance Park, where the MLK festival takes place from 10am-4pm. The festival will include a variety of entertainment and vendors.

-The Wandering Tortoise is hosting an MLK pop up BBQ in partnership with Arcadia Meat Market starting at 11am. They’ll be cooking up great food ranging from grass-fed bacon burgers to grilled chicken wings to celebrate the day!

Tuesday, January 22

-Hear personal narratives from high school seniors as they reflect on the last year of high school and transitioning to adulthood. There will be various narratives presented at Crescent Ballroom. Tickets are $10 for the show starting at 7pm.
