Weekly Wins: Things to do in PHX 6/13-6/19
Another week has passed in the Valley, and hopefully everyone has been able to stay cool as the temps rise.
Fortunately, there seems to be a trend that as the temperatures rise, there is a rise of events to check out to keep you busy (and cool).
We’ve gathered some of our favorite picks for the week. Whatever you decide to do this week, tag us with #FrayLife so we can get in on the action too!
Wednesday, June 13
–Enhance your bartending skills at a Mixology 101 Class located at BareRoots Creative Studio in Surprise. $20 gets you a fun mixology class learning how to make three specialty drinks. From 6:00pm-9:00pm.
– Meet with fellow entrepreneurs at Churchill’s Fine Cigars for a night of collaboration and cocktails (and of course, cigars). $15 includes credit towards a cigar, a beer, and some snacks.
– Get your mid-week Yoga fix with an hour long Vinyasa Flow Yoga class presented by Back to Health of Anthem. The class is for all levels and $5 at the door.
Thursday, June 14
– Enjoy a tour of Galvanize, a co-working space located in the Warehouse District of Phoenix for “Summer in the District.” The tour also features a District Showcase highlighting the various businesses located in the district. Beer, wine, and light refreshments are featured as well as giveaways. Free to register.
– The Van Buren is hosting Australian rock band John Butler Trio for a great night of music. Tickets are between $32 and $47.
Friday, June 15
– Hang out at Galvanize downtown to see top poets compete to see who will represent Phoenix at the National Poetry Slam in Chicago. The Slam begins at 8:00 and tickets are $12 until the day of the event, when they go up to $22.
– Get your alternative and punk music fix with numerous phoenix bands, including Baseline and Rival Coast. Tickets are $12, and the show is at intimate Scottsdale venue Pub Rock.
– Knowing how to start writing a work of fiction can be a challenging task. Join a Fiction Writing 101 class at the Department in Phoenix to complete writing prompts and lightning round workshopping. $25.
Saturday, June 16
– Join Papago CrossFit for a free Yoga Flow course suitable for any level. The class starts at 10:00am.
– Join Phoenix for “Juneteenth” – the oldest celebration of the ending of slavery in the United States. A huge celebration is taking place in Phoenix, with retail vendors, food, art, music, performances – the list goes on and on, and attendance is free!
– Celebrate Father’s Day early with a “Beer Dinner on the Caribbean” presented by Two Brothers Brewery. For $40 a person, you get a four-course meal and four 10 ounce beers. Oh, did we mention there’s also a welcome cocktail? It starts at 6:30pm.
Sunday, June 17
– Take a free guided tour (with the cost of admission, $10) of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art at 12:30pm. There are also free walking tours of nearby sculpture gardens that start at 1:30pm.
– Do something a bit less conventional this Father’s Day and learn how to make a leather wallet that he is sure to love. Tickets are $40 and class goes from 11:00am-12:30pm, the perfect activity to do before lunch.
Monday, June 18
– Mix Up Bar at the Royal Palms Resort features an extensive happy hour with a focus on mixology and farm-fresh ingredients. Happy hour is from 3:00pm-6:00pm and includes great deals on bites as well as cocktails.
Tuesday, June 19
– Get your fill of laughs at Rick Bronson’s House of Comedy with the “Arizona’s Funniest Person with a Day Job” contest. Local stand-up comedians are competing to win – and it’s the finals. Tickets are $12.
– Join one of the longest-running weekly dance parties at Bikini Lounge, featuring Djentrification spinning a variety of records. Starts at 9:00pm and is free.
