Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 8/22 – 8/28

 

 

As we approach the end of August, there is finally, kind of, a glimmer of hope that cooler temps aren’t too far away. 

Time will tell how long summer sticks around before fall finally shows up, but in the meantime, there’s no shortage of indoor events to keep you cool, plus tons of other stuff going on this week, from music nights to beverage tasting and much more.

Wednesday, August 22

– Enjoy a night of free acoustic music at SanTan Brewery in Uptown Phoenix from 6-9pm. The night features Walt Richardson, who brings a unique blend of folk and reggae sounds along with African and Latin influence.

– Head over to Valley Bar for a night of “Cosmic Noise” – featuring DJ Brandon McMahon spinning a blend of funk, psych-folk, afro, soul, and boogie. Get your dance on in the Rose Room. Starts at 8 pm.

Catch a documentary at FilmBar about Ruth Bader Ginsburg that explores her exceptional life and career. You can catch showings at 2:45 and 7:15 pm and tickets are just $9.95.

– Nobuo at Teeter House allows you to try an indulgent 7-course tasting menu from Chef Nobuo for only $50. Head over from 5:30-10pm and enjoy his inventive Japanese offerings for a deep discount.

Friday, August 24

– Not only is it Faith and Family night after the Diamondbacks game (featuring a free MercyMe concert), but you can enjoy postgame fireworks as well. The game starts at 6:40 pm and you can get tickets for as low as $19.

– Get ready for Fantasy Football season by attending a live podcast recording by the Fantasy Footballers at the Crescent Ballroom. The show starts at 7 pm and tickets are $15.

Saturday, August 25

– Spend your Saturday morning helping the Growhouse in Phoenix prepare their garden beds for fall planting. Learn how to grow, work hard, and meet your neighbors. It goes from 8-10am.

– The Van Buren is hosting “Chill Out” – a vodka tasting event featuring live music, DJ sets, and premium vodkas to try. There will also be an ice luge and sno-cone cocktails. Tickets are only $7 and the event starts at 8 pm.

– The Arizona Science Center has an event called “Lasers and Liquor” where you can enjoy music from Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana, and more – all while watching a laser show in the Planetarium. Tickets are $10, and doors open at 6 pm.

Sunday, August 26

Get your Sunday brunch on surrounded by art at the Phoenix Art Museum’s “Palette” restaurant. From 12-3: 30 pm you can enjoy $5 Mimosas, $5 Bloody Marys and $3 off all other alcoholic beverages on the menu.

– BLK Live in Scottsdale brings in DJ Mickey Avalon and Dirt Nasty for a pool party starting at 6 pm. General admission tickets are $15.

Monday, August 27

– Create a beautiful flower arrangement at Casual Pint Phoenix, which has a 35-tap bar and 300+ craft beer market. The Brews and Blooms event can take 1-2 hours to complete and the venue provides all of the tools needed to create the piece. It starts at 6 pm.

– Head over to Bella Gusto Urban Pizzeria for their first ever Beer & Bourbon Dinner featuring a four-course meal of delicious food paired with whiskey. Also features a welcome beer. The event runs from 6-9pm, and tickets are $85.

Tuesday, August 28

– You can still grab tickets to see singer-songwriter Jack Johnson at Ak-Chin Pavilion. Tickets start at $26.25, and the show starts at 7:30 pm.

– Crescent Ballroom hosts “Brunch Collect: Beat Social” – a group of musicians getting together that would otherwise not have exposure. This is a great chance to hear some underground artists for free, starting at 8 pm.
