Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 9/26-10/2
We’re entering October this week in the Valley, which is pretty hard to believe. We’ve noticed a very slight change in the weather both in the mornings and evenings, which brings us hope for cooler days to come. There’s no shortage of great events taking place over the next week that give you options both inside and out, so check out what made the cut and start planning!
Wednesday, September 26
– The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism is hosting a night at the movies with film “Citizen Kane” starting at 7 pm. The 1941 Orson Welles classic revolves around fictional newspaper tycoon Charles Kane. Free.
– Head over to the Coronado for some vegan-friendly food and enjoy comedians presenting “Trash Talks” – a spinoff of Ted Talks where the PowerPoint presentations revolve around dumb things and jokes are flying. The event is free and starts at 8:30 pm.
Thursday, September 27
– The MOTH Phoenix StorySLAM returns to Crescent Ballroom for a night of open-mic storytelling competition. Anyone can participate by telling a five-minute story on the night’s theme. For September, the theme is education. The doors open at 7 pm for the show that starts at 8 pm. Tickets are $10.
– Snag a ticket to see a showing of Ex Machina over at FilmBar in Phoenix. The film centers around a programmer who is selected to participate in an experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the qualities of an A.I. Tickets are $9.95, which include a complimentary small popcorn and $1 off your first drink. Show starts at 7:30 pm.
Friday, September 28
– Enjoy a variety of lunch options over at Civic Space Park in Phoenix for Food Truck Friday between 11 am and 1:30 pm.
– Head over to the Nash starting at 7:30 pm for a show featuring Lenny Roberts, an up-and-coming tenor saxophonist. Known for high-energy live performances, the show will be a great way to spend a Friday night in Phoenix. Tickets are $20 or $10 for students with ID.
– Ballet Arizona is performing for a few nights at the Orpheum Theatre, and you can catch a show starting at 7:30 pm this Friday. The website says to “expect the unexpected” as acclaimed choreographers are put into the spotlight for an evening of new and innovative ballet. Tickets start at $33.00.
Saturday, September 29
– Spend your Saturday afternoon tasting wine for free at Hidden Track Bottle Shop from 12-3pm. Featuring high quality, well-priced wines.
– The 2018 Chile Pepper Festival hits Roosevelt Row again this year – bringing food, music, and talent to the streets of Phoenix starting at 5 pm. Including onsite chile roasting, cooking demos, live music, a talent show, beer garden, and much more, it’s a great way to spend your Saturday evening. General admission is $10, with tickets for food and drinks starting at $3 a ticket. You can also buy ticket packages to get more bang for your buck. Details here!
Sunday, September 30
– BYOB and learn how to paint a nighttime scene over at Your Art Party in Glendale for a paint and sip night. Instructors will walk you through recreating a piece of art step by step in a beautiful studio. Tickets are $30.00, and it starts at 5 pm.
– Music lovers can head over to Valley Bar for a night of “Fuse Sessions” blending jazz fusion, funk, R&B, and everything in between. Tickets are $5 in advance, $10 the day of the show. Doors open at 7 pm for the show starting at 7:30 pm.
Monday, October 1
– Copper Blues is hosting a team trivia night with “Geeks who Drink” starting at 7pm. Get a team of friends together and test your knowledge for a chance to win a variety of prizes. There will also be drink specials.
Tuesday, October 2
– Did someone say Taco Tuesday???? La Señora at the Saguaro Scottsdale has fresh lime margaritas, a selection of ice-cold beers, and $4 tacos from 6-9pm. Head on over.
– The Duce in Phoenix is hosting another South-Central Swing Night, featuring swing dance lessons from 7-8pm and live music all night. Cocktail specials will be running all night, and no partner is required to dance. $8 admission.
