#FrayLife Spring Training Guide: AL Central

Spring training is underway, which means that plenty of tourists are here to enjoy America’s and some of that famous Arizona sun. With 15 teams and 10 stadiums in Cactus league, however, it can be overwhelming trying to sort out your game day plans.

That’s why we’re covering every spring training game to bring you the ultimate fan experience. Last, but not least, is the AL Central. Fans of the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and Kansas City Royals will want to play close attention to this guide to baseball, brew and fun.

The Cleveland Indians

Location: Goodyear Ballpark, Goodyear

Goodyear Ballpark is Ohio headquarters during spring training. This epic stadium hosts both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians throughout the Cactus League. That means you’ll find plenty of Ohio staples at this stadium, such as the Cleveland Polish Boy with Bertman Ball Park mustard. Though the park offers plenty of shade, we recommend opting for one of the 1,500 lawn seats in left field to soak up the rays.

Looking to unwind after your day in the sun? Check out Augie’s Sports Grill in Parkway Village. This local watering hole attracts plenty of fans looking to enjoy their live music and happy hour, which runs daily from 3pm-7pm. You can also hop right next door to Saddle Mountain Brewing Company for some tasty burgers and craft beers.

The Chicago White Sox

Location: Camelback Ranch, Glendale

Let’s face it: the Cubs get all the attention. Whether it’s the droves of fans going to Sloan Park for Spring Training or the excessive hype on ESPN, the White Sox can often feel like Chicago’s second team. That’s a blessing in disguise for White Sox fans, who can enjoy cheaper tickets and better seats at Camelback Ranch in Glendale.

Camelback Ranch is one of the best places to watch a game thanks to features like the party deck, free parking and ample lawn seating. Plus, it has some seriously scenic grounds, which include a five-acre lake and citrus grove. The west side also includes plenty of game day eateries. Max’s Sports Bar has 95 TV screens and a daily happy hour with half-price appetizers and discounted beer from 4-7pm. Of course, no reference of Glendale sports bars is complete without McFadden’s Restaurant and Saloon. It’s the de facto bar in the Westgate Entertainment District and a perfect starting point for a night on the town.

The Kansas City Royals

Location: Surprise Stadium, Surprise

The Kansas City Royals play at Surprise Stadium, which is about 45 minutes northwest of Phoenix. It may be the furthest stadium from downtown, but it’s well worth the drive. Surprise Stadium has a laundry list of great game day features, including free parking, commemorative plaques of Royals players, and viewing areas for batting practice.

You can also enjoy some authentic Kansas City BBQ right in the Valley of the Sun. Dillon’s KC BBQ and Sports Bar, located about 15 minutes away in Peoria, is renowned for serving up mouthwatering pulled pork, beef brisket, and pulled chicken sandwiches. You can also make a post game pitstop at State 48 Brewery, just five minutes from Surprise Stadium. This increasingly popular brewery has over 20 craft beers and tasty wood fired pizza perfect for celebrating a win.
