Best Record Stores in Phoenix

The Phoenix area has plenty of options for those among us who still swear by physical media, who eschew the convenience of streaming for the purposefulness and ritual of listening to music on vinyl. There are plenty of spots to cruise for vinyl in the area, so we’re here to highlight five of our favorite shops in town.

The ‘In’ Groove

With an emphasis on collectible, high-quality vinyl, The ‘In’ Groove is a record collector’s dream. In addition to their massive selection of new and used LPs and CDs, they offer a surprisingly large inventory of quality stereo equipment, helping shoppers ensure their home stereo setup is locked in and at its best. Ensuring their inventory is audiophile quality is key here: they inspect and deep clean every used record for sale (other than the classic dollar bin cheapies), ensuring only the highest quality for their dedicated customer base, even going as far as to offer ultrasonic cleaning on all LP purchases. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., 3300 N 24th St, Phoenix, AZ; theingroove.com // @theingroove

The Record Room

This Phoenix mainstay may have their hearts in the world of punk and hardcore, but their selection of new and used vinyl goes way beyond that world. Recently celebrating 10 years in business, The Record Room’s an unassuming joint with a deep collection of killer records, as well as CDs, books, memorabilia, and more. Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; 2601 W Dunlap Ave, Phoenix, AZ; recordroomaz.com // @recordroomphoenix

Stinkweeds Records

Stinkweeds is a pillar of the Phoenix underground music scene, selling records, CDs, books, and beyond since 1987. Located in Medlock Plaza next to a tattoo parlor, a hi fi store, and a vintage boutique, you could make a whole day out of checking out the shop and their neighbors. With a highly curated but sprawling collection of new and used records in a well-organized and open environment, it’s no surprise Stinkweeds is such an iconic spot. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; 12 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ; stinkweeds.com // @stinkweedsrecords

Tracks In Wax

If you closed your eyes and imagined a vintage record store, chances are something like Tracks in Wax will come to mind. Every surface of the place is covered in music ephemera: obscure band stickers, fading promo posters plugging gigs and record releases long past, rare and quirky LPs in frames. This is everything you could want from a record shop specializing in rare and collectible vinyl, a crazy selection in an ideal environment for crate digging. Tuesday through Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; 4741 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ; tracksinwax.net

Zia Records

With three locations in the area, two in Phoenix, one in Tempe, wherever you go in town, there’s probably a Zia nearby. One of the best chains of independent record stores in the country, Zia is known for their deep inventories and exclusive pressings of limited edition copies of new and reissued albums. There’s something for everyone at your neighborhood Zia, from entry-level record shoppers to record nerds with decades of collecting experience. Open daily, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; 1850 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ, 2510 W Thunderbird Rd, Phoenix, AZ, 3201 S Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ;  ziarecords.com // @ziarecords
