5 of the Most Fun Activities You Can Do This Fall When It’s Safe to Go Outside Again in Phx
Unlike the rest of the country — the Valley comes alive in the fall, especially after an especially lethargic, hot summer. It’s prime time for food festivals, fitness classes on the lawn and outdoor concerts that don’t require the reprieve of a pool. To help you take full advantage of the happiest time of the year, we’ve rounded up a few of the top outdoor events and activities to check out.
1. Catch a Concert at Ak-Chin Pavillion
There are few things as incredible as an outdoor concert in perfect weather, especially at a venue as expansive and awe-inspiring as Ak-Chin Pavillion where you can sing along with 20,000 of your closest friends. This fall, look forward to performances from top acts like Florida Georgia Line and Meek Mill.

2. Downward Dog at Mountain Shadows
Thursdays at 6:30 PM | Mondays at 6:00 PM beginning October 7
One of the Valley’s most luxurious resorts is hosting complimentary one-hour yoga classes on the lawn, allowing visitors and residents alike to enjoy its breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain while breaking a sweat. Even better? You can enjoy $5 glasses of wine inside afterward.
3. Ride the 150-foot Ferris Wheel at the Arizona State Fair
October 4 – 27
The state fair’s more than 100 years in Arizona has made it one of the state’s most iconic and well-attended events. There’s a full carnival, fried everything, livestock competitions (it is a fair, after all) and a knockout lineup of concerts that includes everyone from MC Hammer to Lee Brice.

4. Celebrate German Culture (and beer!) at Four Peaks Oktoberfest
October 11-13
You might not be able go to Germany this Oktoberfest season, but the Four Peaks Oktoberfest at Tempe Town Lake is the next best thing. Aside from the overflow of Four Peaks favorites like the Pumpkin Porter and Kilt Lifter, attendees will enjoy carnival rides, traditional German fare, and live music.
Test your Taco-Eating Skills at Taco Festival
October 12-13
Believe it or not, the nation’s first-ever taco festival originated right here in Scottsdale, and it’s now celebrating its tenth-anniversary event, making this a can’t-miss food festival this season. Enjoy tacos from favorites like Frank & Lupe’s and Taco Chelo, peruse the tequila expo or enter your dog in the chihuahua beauty pageant to get the full experience.
5. Satisfy your sweet teeth at the Downtown Donut Festival
November 18
The second annual Downtown Donut Festival is putting a spotlight on the beloved dessert you can eat all day long. The festival will showcase variations from 20 vendors including Hurts Donut Co. and The Dapper Doughnuts, which will be serving up their top hits for just $1. In addition to the donuts, attendees will enjoy lawn games, mimosa bars, beer, and wine tasting stations, live music and a local vendor marketplace.
