Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 11/21 – 11/27




It’s Thanksgiving week – the days have passed us by in the Valley and it’s finally time to feast. Just because it’s a holiday week doesn’t mean there’s a lack of things to do, however. There are tons of events going on over the next seven days that we think you’ll enjoy just as much as the meal on Thursday.

Wednesday, November 21

– Fans of the electronic duo Daft Punk should head over to the Van Buren for “One More Time: A Tribute to Daft Punk.” The show features a DJ and visual set that combines their hit songs plus remixes. Doors open at 7 pm and tickets are $15.

– FilmBar is presenting a showing of “Addams Family Values” as a part of their “Big Gay Classic” series, where costumes are encouraged. There will also be raffles and wine specials, with proceeds of the tickets going to benefit an LGBT charity. The showing is at 7:30, and tickets are $14.

Thursday, November 22

– The Lost Leaf is hosting a fun night of poetry and compliments that’s free to attend. The “Compliment Deathmatch” is a head-to-head competition that gives participants 30 seconds to give compliments to their opponent poetically. Then, there will be 15 poets competing in the Phoenix poetry slam. Starts at 7 pm.

– Who says you can’t get your dance on after you have your Thanksgiving meal? Head over to Valley Bar for “Jive Turkey,” a funky soul dance party that is a tradition at the bar. The free event starts at 8 pm.

Friday, November 23

– Find everything you need for your artsy friends and family members and avoid the crowds by heading to the Phoenix Art Museum for their Black Friday sale. There will be 10% off for non-members and 20% off for members in the store, deals on museum memberships, and more. Starts at 10 am.

– Another great place to find gifts in a low-stress atmosphere is at the Alternative Black Friday taking place at CityScape in Phoenix. Over 25 local businesses will have booths set up featuring vintage and handmade items to browse through. Plus, you can enjoy festive drinks and live music. Starts at 12 pm.

Saturday, November 24

– It’s Small Business Saturday, and what better way to spend it than at the Phoenix Flea Market taking place at Heritage Square Park? You can enjoy the great weather and shop a range of handcrafted goods for just a $5 admission fee.  There will be lots of food and drinks for purchase, too. Runs from 10am-5pm.

The Festival of Lights Kick-Off Party takes place in Ahwatukee – the biggest festival in the city featuring a beer garden, street fair, carnival rides, live music, and much more. The kick-off begins at 12 pm and runs till 8 pm. Admission to the event is free! Find out more information on directions and parking on their site.


Sunday, November 25


– Who doesn’t love the combination of great weather, music, and mimosas? The Teapot in Phoenix hosts “Bubbles and Beats” from 9:30am-2pm featuring all of these things. Did we mention the mimosas are two for one? Score.

– StandUp Live in Phoenix is presenting “StandUp Latino”, Arizona’s official Latino comedy show featuring an all-star lineup. Juan Villareal will be there, as well as Julio Gonzalez – both delivering lots of laughs. Tickets are just $15 for the show starting at 7 pm.


Monday, November 26

– You’ve probably heard of Cyber Monday, but have you heard it’s a chance for you to double your dollar with Jax Fray!? Tuesday, November 27

– Enjoy a Latin Jazz night over at the Nash featuring the Latin Jazz band from Arizona State University starting at 7:30 pm. They will be performing Afro-Cuban and Brazilian Jazz. Tickets are $15 or $5 for students with ID.

– The Coronado restaurant in Phoenix is hosting “Vinyl Voices” – a night of storytelling and record sharing that takes place from 8-10pm. The event is free, but you’ll probably want to enjoy some of the tasty offerings they have to offer.
