Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Phoenix 9/12 – 9/18
September brings a lot of great community events to the Valley, from a variety of musical performances to opportunities to try a variety of foods. The weather is slightly (and we say slightly) nicer at night, making being outside just a bit more bearable…so take advantage!
Whether you want to stay in the air conditioning or want to venture out, Phoenix has a variety of events for you to choose from over the next 7 days.

Wednesday, September 12
– Hang out at Cartwright’s Modern Cuisine for a night of tasting featuring AZ Food & Wine and AZ Food & Beer. The City Creamery Ice Cream will be there, along with Chef Christopher Schlattman cooking BBQ. Tickets are $40 ahead of time or $45 at the door. There will be live music as well. The event starts at 6 pm.
– As a part of FilmBar’s celebration of films directed by women, there will be a showing of “Point Break” starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze starting at 7 pm. Tickets are $10.
Thursday, September 13
– Now that it’s getting a bit nicer at nighttime around here, why not head over to Crescent Ballroom for their Community Bike Ride? The free event takes you around for a 45-60-minute bike ride around Downtown Phoenix. You can then enjoy discounted drinks and burritos. Win-win. The event is free and starts at 8 pm.
– Those with eclectic music tastes are sure to enjoy DJ Gila Man’s set at Valley Bar, starting at 9 pm. He will be spinning all Vinyl selections for you to jam out to. Free, 21+.
Friday, September 14
– Comedian Chris Tucker (known best for his role in the iconic Rush Hour series) is coming to Stand Up Live for a night of laughs starting at 7:30 pm. He became a favorite on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and the show is sure to be a good one. Tickets are $45.
– The Duce is hosting a “Pancakes and Booze” art show starting at 8 pm. Over 200 pieces of artwork by Phoenix artists will be on display at the venue, as well as live music, a free pancake bar, and alcohol for purchase. Tickets are $10 at the door (cash only) or $13 online (these let you jump the lines).
Saturday, September 15
– The “Junk in the Trunk” Vintage Market is coming back to Scottsdale. Over 150 vintage and handmade vendors are selling vintage goods over at Westworld in Scottsdale from 9am-4pm. You can purchase early entry tickets for $25 (letting you in an hour early at 8 am) or stick with general admission for $8.
– It’s back! The fifth annual Urban Ale Trail comes to Downtown Phoenix. This is a walkable beer tasting tour that runs from 1-6pm and features more than two dozen bars and restaurants offering three 4-ounce samples of beer for $1-2 each paired with a free bar snack. Participation is free for the self-guided tour. Find the list of the participating restaurants here.
Sunday, September 16
– Hear the sweet sounds of the Phoenix Symphony performing Beethoven’s Symphony No.9. Tito Muñoz is starting his fifth season as the music director and this is a great way to experience the opening weekend. Show starts at 2 pm and tickets range from $25-103.
– The Citizens Club is hosting “The Cool Down” at Mountain Shadows Resort in Scottsdale. The event is 60 minutes of yoga starting at 6:30 pm, followed by a poolside cool down featuring calming music by DJ Soloman. Included in the $35 cost are the class, parking, pool entry and the featured cocktail of the night.
Monday, September 17
– Taco Guild is hosting the first ever “Roger Clyne’s Mexican Moonshine Tequila Mix-Off” where eight bartenders are competing for a Grand Championship belt and $500 cash. Hang out at the restaurant starting at 7 pm to enjoy dinner, a taste of all the drinks, a keepsake shot glass, and a ballot for voting. General admission tickets are $50, VIP costs $90.
– Film Bar is partnered with Devour Phoenix to present a showing of “The Search for General Tso” – a part of their film series inspired by food in film. The showing starts at 7:30 pm and tickets are $12, which include a food or beverage component to go along with the film.
Tuesday, September 18
– The Local Chandler knows how to do Taco Tuesday. From 11am-10pm, enjoy $3 tacos, $4 tall beers, and $4 Cuervo Tradicional and local margaritas. If Taco Tuesday isn’t part of your routine, it needs to be.
– The Musical Instrument Museum is hosting “Mwenso and the Shakes” – a troupe of global artists who present beautiful blues and jazz music expressed through African and Afro-American music. The show is rated by highly by the New York Times. The show starts at 7 pm and tickets range from $35.50-40.50.
