Another month is starting in Phoenix, and with it comes a ton of events to check out around the Valley.
We love the opportunity a new month brings, and August is not short on things to explore – from big time musicians hitting up venues to artsy exhibits and food tastings galore.

Wednesday, August 1
– The Lunchbox live music venue is celebrating their grand opening from 5-10pm! The celebration includes a penny drink deal (you can’t beat that), DJ, and much more.
– The Art Museum is back at it with another great $5 film to enjoy as part of the exhibition “In the Company of Women.” Starting at 6pm, enjoy the historical documentary Womanhouse about important feminist cultural events.
Thursday, August 2
– Hang out at the Hotel Valley Ho from 6-9pm to enjoy a night of vinyl records spun by DJ WF Rani. Not only is it a great night of music, but there are drink and food specials as well! You’re encouraged to bring your own vinyl, too.
Friday, August 3
– Enjoy a night of Latin music at Valley Bar with “Café Jaleo: Tradicional Cumbia, Salsa y Cubano.” Tickets start at $10 and get you in to see two sets of music – the first starting at 7:30pm, the second at 8:30pm.
– Rapper G-Eazy is coming to Ak-Chin Pavilion with special guest Lil Uzi Vert. G-Eazy has had numerous hits on the radio and you can still snag tickets starting at $29.50. The show starts at 6:30pm.
Saturday, August 4
– Have some fun in the sun at the Clarendon Hotel with a summer pool party benefitting the one-n-ten organization. With a DJ, raffles, prizes, and much more, it should be a good day. $15 admission, and the event runs from 1-7pm.
– Celebrate the 16th birthday of independent music in Phoenix with Stateside Presents at the Van Buren! For only $10, you get in on the fun which includes a live DJ, carnival games, ticket piñata, and more. Starts at 8pm.
Sunday, August 5
– Celebrate National Oyster Day at the Buck & Rider restaurant. They’ll have half price oysters all day, as well as happy hour drink prices from open to close (10am-9pm).
– The Saguaro Scottsdale hosts a movie screening of ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ from 8-10pm. Free with an RSVP, drinks and snacks available for purchase.
Monday, August 6
– The Alamo Drafthouse in Tempe is hosting a singalong version of the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine starting at 7pm. Enjoy the 4k restoration of the film with surround sound.
– If you’re tired of the sun, a night swim at Maya Day & Nightclub may be perfect for you. The free night swim event includes DJ Ape Drums and starts at 10pm. You just need to RSVP here.
Tuesday, August 7
– Scottish electronic band Bodega is bringing their sound to Valley Bar with special guests Paper Foxes (new-wave disco indie-pop). The show starts at 8pm and tickets are $12.
– You can still grab tickets to see YouTube stars Dan and Phil take the stage for their “Interactive Introverts” tour at Comerica Theatre. Featuring stories, rants, and roasts, it’s a show heavy on audience participation. Tickets from $48.50, show at 7:30pm.
Wednesday, August 8
– Tea and herb lovers will love this interactive “Intuitive Tea Blending” class by Your Apothekerry. Learn what smells you are drawn to and the meaning behind them. The class is $30 and starts at 6:30pm.
– Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles is hosting a Paint and Sip night starting at 7pm, featuring a live DJ as well. $30 to register.
Thursday, August 9
– Take a break from work with a Lunch Time Flow yoga class presented by Urban Wellness. For $10, you can enjoy a Vinyasa flow class that will help energize and de-stress you! From 12-1pm.
– Watch 10 local poets compete in the Phoenix Poetry Slam from 8-10pm. The night is presented by Lawn Gnome Publishing and is a great way to support literacy events in the community. Tickets start at $5.
Friday, August 10
– Over-the-top comedian Eric Andre (The Eric Andre Show, Man Seeking Woman) is bringing his uncensored routine to StandUp Live with two shows – one at 7:30 and one at 10pm. GA tickets are $27.
– Aura Nightclub in Tempe is hosting “Submission,” a night dedicated to techno music. Come listen to T3chno Pool spinning the hottest tracks – no cover. Commemorative glow cups and drink specials. Starts at 9pm.
Saturday, August 11
– The Pool at Talking Stick Resort is hosting another “Release Pool Party”, this time with DJ and electronic dance producer Jauz. Starts at 12pm, tickets are $25.
– See all the trick shots and entertainment from the Harlem Globetrotters at Talking Stick Resort. The show starts at 6pm, tickets going for as low as $18.
Sunday, August 12
– Rock band Weezer is coming to Ak-Chin Pavilion with alt-rock band Pixies for a night of great music. You can snag tickets for as low as $18.75. The show starts at 7:30pm.
Monday, August 13
– Grab the microphone at Rips Bar this Monday for a night of Karaoke starting at 9pm.
– FilmBar presents a screening of “Desperately Seeking Susan” in partnership with Zia Records. There will be giveaways and more! Tickets are $9.95, and the show starts at 7:30pm.
Tuesday, August 14
– Dierks Whiskey Row in Gilber is hosting a “Paintin’ with Dierks” night where you can enjoy creating a rustic monogrammed piece. There will be happy hour prices on food and beverages. The cost is $25, and it starts at 6:30pm.
– The Rebel Lounge is hosting alt/indie rock band Knox Hamilton with special guest Brother Sundance starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15.
Wednesday, August 15
– Hang out at Valley Bar for “BarFlies” – the monthly reading series by members of the community surrounding a different theme. This month’s theme is “True Colors.” The event starts at 7pm, and the cost is $5.
– The Nash is hosting “Jazz & Jokes” – combining stand-up comedians with jazz musicians for a night of improv. Starting at 7:30pm, the cost is $10.
Thursday, August 16
– Participate in an AZ Collaborative Dinner at Southern Rail Restaurant featuring samplings of Southern inspired dishes and pairings of adult beverages. Tickets are $50.67 with service fees, event starts at 6pm.
– Rott n’ Grapes is hosting a Wine Tasting Night featuring wine tastings and pairings from Washington State. The night starts at 6:30pm and tickets are $25.
Friday, August 17
– Panic! At the Disco is touring with Hayley Kioko for their North American Tour at Gila River Arena in Glendale. The show starts at 7pm and you can still snag tickets, starting at $71.
– Check out a new collection of work by nationally-renowned muralist John Moody at {9} the Gallery. His NOMAD series is on display for the month and brings a contemporary urban style that is definitely worth checking out. The gallery is open 6-10pm.
Saturday, August 18
– The PHX Film Collective presents a showing of “Do the Right Thing” by director Spike Lee – described as a quintessential New York film. The viewing features an introduction and post-film discussion with two ASU professors. Tickets are $8, and the showing starts at 7pm at the Phoenix Changing Hands Bookstore.
– Hang out for a “Kic>|3ACK” party presented by the 8Teen. The all-day pool party features a DJ spinning beats all day. The location and parking directions are released the day of the event. Tickets are $18, for ages 18+.
Sunday, August 19
– Hang out at Mountain Shadows Resort for “Cool Down,” a night featuring an hour of yoga with beautiful mountain views and a poolside cooldown. Enjoy the sunset swim with Zen-inspired music and specialized cocktails. $35 includes the class, swim, and one featured cocktail. The event starts at 6:30pm.
Monday, August 20
– Women leaders and business owners are hosting a “Quarterly Happy Hour” at Casablanca Rooftop Lounge in Scottsdale. The event is open to all and is a great night to mix, mingle, and enjoy the company of women. 12 organizations in the Valley are hosting. Tickets are $20 for one (including one drink) and two for $35 (including two drinks). The event runs from 5:30-7:30pm.
Tuesday, August 21
– You can catch “The Voice” winner Sawyer Fredericks with guest Parsonfield performing at Valley Bar at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20.
– Rapper J. Cole brings his KOD Tour to the Talking Stick Resort Arena, along with guest Young Thug. The show starts at 7:30pm and you can get tickets as low as $44.75.
Wednesday, August 22
– Technology lovers will enjoy a conversation at the University of Advancing Technology featuring 10 Imaging co-founder Shari Vedovato. Coffee and snacks will be served amongst the chat about cameras, 3D imaging tech, and more. The event is free and starts at 3pm.
Thursday, August 23
– Catch the “Summer Plays on Tour” featuring country artists Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker at Ak-Chin Pavilion, starting at 7pm. You can get tickets for as low as $26.
– The Stir-Crazy Comedy Club in the Westgate Entertainment District is presenting Andy Hendrickson, who has appeared on The Late Show, Gotham Comedy Live and more. Tickets are $18 for the show starting at 7pm.
Friday, August 24
– Fantasy football fans should make plans to attend “Fantasy for The People” tour – a live podcast recording and question and answer session from local top podcasters of The Fantasy Footballers. Andy, Mike, and Jason have taken the show on the road to multiple cities and their hometown of Phoenix is the last stop. Show is at the Crescent Ballroom at 8pm and tickets start at $15.
Saturday, August 25
– “I Love the 90’s Bash” is coming to Scottsdale starting at 5pm. Participants are encouraged to dress in 90’s inspired attire and features tons of participating bars with drink specials and hit jams from the decade. General admission starts at $20.
– R&B artist Ne-Yo is bringing his talents to the Celebrity Theatre with a show starting at 8:30pm. You can get tickets starting at $20 plus service fees.
Sunday, August 26
– Cobra Arcade Bar is hosting a party featuring DJ M’Rocka, and the best part is that there’s no cover! Enjoy the events from 4-8pm.
– Need some stress relief? Consider attending the Sonic Crystal Bliss class at Urban Wellness from 6:30-7:30pm. The night is designed to let your body relax with the help of singing bowls and more. The cost is $10.
Monday, August 27
– The Grid: Games and Growlers in Mesa invites you to play Rockband like you’ve never played before, featuring professional lighting and sound. Of course there will be beer, cocktails, and food. Free and starts at 8pm.
– The George & Dragon English Pub and Restaurant is hosting karaoke from 9:30pm-1:30am featuring a top-quality sound system. Come enjoy singing tunes and yummy traditional British food.
Tuesday, August 28
– The Hale Theatre in Gilbert is presenting a John Denver Tribute show performed by Ted Vigil. This show was awarded the “Rising Legend” award from the National Traditional Country Music Association. The show starts at 3pm and tickets start at $34.00.
– Singer-songwriter Jack Johnson is coming to the Ak-Chin Pavilion with a show starting at 7:30pm. You can grab tickets starting at $26.25.
Wednesday, August 29
– The Phoenix Art Museum presents “Make It” – a hands on art-making space for all ages and abilities. From 3:30-7:30pm you can observe technique from a local artist. This month features Estrella Peyton, exploring composition.
– Support Phoenician Dylan Gardner as he comes to Valley Bar to perform as a part of his Almost Real Tour. The singer-songwriter produces quirky and catchy pop hits. Show starts at 8pm, tickets between $10-12 for general admission.
Thursday, August 30
– American rock band Awolnation is gracing the Van Buren stage with a show starting at 8pm. General admission tickets start at $27.00.
– If 80’s tunes are more your scene, you can still grab tickets to the “Lost 80’s Live” show featuring bands such as A Flock of Seagulls, Wang Chung, and vocalists from When in Rome. Tickets available for the 7:30pm show starting at $48.80.
Friday, August 31
– You can still grab tickets to see singer-songwriter Sam Smith at the Gila River Arena. Smith brings his soulful voice to a wide variety of hits that put him in the spotlight. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are on sale starting from $30.75.
